How Do I Become a Volunteer?

Volunteering for Citizen Corps is easy!

Just look for the Volunteer Now icon under the banner at the top of each page and also within the text on several pages. When you spot the icon, just click it, and you are ready to begin the process.

Complete the requested information on the first page of the Citizen Corps form.

After selecting your user name and password, you will be asked to provide some basic information about how you can be contacted and when you are most often available to volunteer. Any information you provide to us will never be used except in our volunteer programs.

You will also be asked to indicate which of our seven programs you feel you may be interested in. Currently, Community Emergency Response Team, Medical Reserve Corps and Volunteers in Police Services require a background check to be accepted into their programs. For more detailed information about getting involved in a specific program, click on the organization link on the left.

If you haven't selected a program to become involved with just yet, don't worry, you can choose to become a part of these organizations at any time. Also, our program coordinators review volunteer applications and may be able to help advise you on how different organizations may meet your desires and best utilize your skills.

Once you have registered with Citizen Corps, a staff person will confirm receipt of your registration by e-mail or letter within a few days. You will also receive more detailed information about each of the programs in which you indicated an interest within three weeks. Again, you will be notified if your application to join a specific group has been accepted. Regular notices of upcoming events and training will be sent to volunteers, and you will begin to receive Tulsa Partners, our monthly newsletter.

Each Citizen Corps volunteer must go through an initial training orientation prior to taking part in any volunteer events. Additional training programs may be necessary depending on the types of volunteer activities you would like to take part in.

Once a volunteer has been accepted in to the Citizen Corps or into one of our seven programs, the volunteer can begin volunteering for opportunities listed on our site.
