Why is it Important to Be Ready?

A situation can escalate quickly and without warning into an emergency. And that is why it is important to know how to be prepared before an emergency occurs. The best things you can do to keep yourself and your family safe in an emergency are to prepare, stay calm and follow instructions from emergency response personnel. We encourage every Citizen Corps volunteer to develop a household emergency plan, assemble a disaster supply kit and learn some basic information about what to do before, during and after any type of emergency.
