Funding Sources
Tulsa Citizen Corps is supported in part by the City of Tulsa, Department of Public Works. Past, present and future Tulsans should know the debt of gratitude they owe to a group of extraordinary people who inspired and served the community. Without their profound understanding of the significance of preparedness and without their foresight, courage and dedication, the success of the present Tulsa Citizen Corps would have been immeasurably more difficult to achieve.
The City of Tulsa was one
of 17 communities nationwide chosen to receive a Special Volunteer Program
grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service, the
same organization that funds the Americorps, Vista and Senior Corps volunteer programs.
The grant has provided $275,000 annually for three years of funding. The grant ended in October 2006.
Other Grants
In September 2003, a sister program to Citizen Corps, Tulsa Partners, Inc., received a $40,000 grant from the SBC Foundation for Web site
and technology projects that will enhance the relationships between Citizen
Corps, its partner agencies and volunteers.
Tulsa Public Schools received
a $400,000 grant in 2003 to bring CERT (Community Emergency Response Teams)
training to their teachers, staff, students and parents, resulting in 80
trained teams throughout the city by April 2005.
Tulsa Partners, Inc., has
three times received a $50,000 grant from the Department of Health and Human Services to fund the Medical Reserve Corps program. The Oklahoma State Department of Health has matched those grants with an additional $50,000 per year.
