Why is Citizen Corps Important?

Citizen Corps was created to provide citizens like you with an opportunity to become involved in the national homeland security effort on a local level. Citizen Corps believes that the best defense against hazards of all kinds is a strongly inter-connected community where neighbors look out for neighbors and individuals are empowered to help their families, neighbors and co-workers in an emergency.

In an emergency, people will respond by helping others in need. Citizen Corps equips those individuals with skills and knowledge so that when the need arises in the event of a disaster, our volunteers will be able to lend their skills while ensuring their personal safety and that of those they are working to help.

Thanks to the Mayor’s Homeland Security Taskforce and the work of our local professional first responders, we know that Tulsa is as prepared as possible for an emergency or disaster. Citizen Corps volunteers are trained to support the work of the professional responders when appropriate and to further preparedness efforts.
